Located in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, Otsuka Masjid is more than just a place of worship for Muslims—it embodies a warm, community-oriented spirit reminiscent of Japan’s Shōwa era. Here, the Islamic values of compassion and mutual aid come to life.
The masjid serves not only as a prayer space but also as a refuge for those facing personal hardships. It is a gathering place for volunteers who provide meals to the homeless and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. On the day following the Great East Japan Earthquake, members of Otsuka Masjid rushed to the affected areas, guided by the belief that “helping those in need is at the heart of being a Muslim.”
Through such actions, Otsuka Masjid has become a symbol of Islam’s commitment to kindness, solidarity, and service to others—values that transcend religion and resonate deeply with all communities.
